Today’s post was inspired by Karin’s LiveLab demonstrating Property Graphs. You can see it here.

If you choose to run this lab ‘on your own’, you will be given several CSV files to contain two tables. You can now do this in VS Code with our SQL Developer extension!

This will load a 5 step ‘wizard’.

Step ‘1’ defines the source files and file specifications. Once you have determined the parameters, press the ‘Preview’ button. If your data looks good, you’re ready to hit the ‘Next’ button.

My mapping is very easy – the order and field names of the csv match the table, so if I ‘jump to the end’, I just hit the ‘Done’ button.

All my data is loaded, and if I’m paranoid, I can always open the table and browse the Data page, or ask for row counts.

Things you need to know

If there are columns that require more information to map the data correctly, we will ‘paint’ the screen. The most common occurrence here is if you are working with dates or timestamps – you must provide the format so we can make the TO_DATE call correctly.

Once the wizard completes, you will see the dialog or page remain open. So if I want to select a new file, or make some changes and run it again, I just need to press the ‘Done’ button again. When I’m done, just close the document/window.

I’ve loaded about 6,000 rows into my new property graph demo table, so let’s try a query

Before you can run this, you will be asked to ‘log in’ – having an authenticated session in FreeSQL gives you your own schema, so you can then create tables, indexes, property graphs, etc.

But wait, I need data??

You can connect to your own Oracle 26ai Database with our VS Code extension, using FreeSQL.com.

Once you’re connected, you can use our new data loader.
