Starting today, the support window for Oracle SQL Developer version 24.3 has been updated to April 2027.

We’re also looking at a minor update to the current 24.3.1 offering that will address some third-party libraries that need to be updated along with the embedded Java home. However, there are no new features planned for Oracle SQL Developer.

All new features, enhancements, and enhancements are delivered via the Oracle SQL Developer Extension for VS Code.

2026 Feature Pack

In general I can share that we are working on the following VS Code Extensions features including but NOT limited to:

  • database object create/edit dialog – we just added this for tables (25.4), you’ll see things like VIEWS, INDEXES, and more added in the next few releases
  • Excel Import – we recently added support for CSV (25.4)
  • DBA stuff! Yes, DBA features are coming, we’ll start with security features, specifically user management
  • lots of connection stuff – better Kerberos support, Windows logon credentials as Kerberos client credentials (MSLSA), importing your sqldev classic connections, and support for adding coloring indicators for your editor
  • more fun with SQL Notebooks – I would say more but I would get in trouble for teasing you all

Our next update is 26.1, and it will be released sometime in late March.
